Checking-In on New Years Resolutions
As we close out the first quarter of the year, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on the intentions we set at the start of January—and consider how they’re holding up.
Every year, I hear people debate the value of New Year’s resolutions. Some love the fresh-start feeling that comes with January 1st, while others roll their eyes at the idea altogether. And honestly? Both perspectives are valid.
It can be exciting and motivating to reflect on the year ahead and think about what changes you'd like to make. But more often than not, those shiny resolutions start to fade into the background by February—or even earlier. And that’s totally okay.
The Purpose of This Post
This post has two main goals:
To gently remind you of the intentions you may have set back in January, and
To remind you that while the New Year is a great time to reset or renew your goals, so is any other day of the year.
You don’t need a calendar milestone to make meaningful changes. Every moment holds the opportunity to begin again.
Revisiting Resolutions
January might feel like a lifetime ago, but we're only 25% of the way through the year. That means there’s still 75% left—plenty of time to make progress. So before you write off your resolutions as a lost cause, take a moment to check in:
What’s been working?
What hasn’t?
Have you simply lost sight of your goals?
If your resolutions fell off because they slipped your mind, try building a daily reminder system. One of my favorite strategies is writing down my goals by hand each morning and evening. The physical act of handwriting helps reinforce memory and intention. Whether it’s in a journal, a notebook, or even a sticky note on your mirror, choose a method that works for you.
Also ask yourself: Are these goals still relevant? Maybe you set out to travel more, but now you're expecting a baby—your priorities may have shifted, and that’s perfectly natural. Adjust accordingly. On the other hand, if the goal still matters and nothing significant has changed, renew your commitment. Identify three small, actionable steps you can take today to move closer to that goal.
You Can Make Resolutions Anytime
Let’s talk specifically about health and wellness resolutions—especially the ones tied to lifestyle and eating habits.
We all know the phrase: “The new me starts Monday.” But what if it didn’t have to?
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, unmotivated, or stuck in an all-or-nothing mindset, I want to remind you: you can choose to make a change at any moment. You don’t need to wait for a Monday, a new month, or a new year.
For example, a food choice you made at breakfast that didn’t feel supportive or mindful doesn’t have to define the rest of your day. That meal exists on its own. The next meal—or even the next snack—is a fresh start. Forgetting to do a new habit or mindset doesn’t cancel out your entire effort. You are always just one choice away from getting back in alignment with your goals.
Some days might feel like a rollercoaster—ups and downs from one meal to the next—but that doesn’t mean you’re failing. What matters most is staying grounded in the present moment and recognizing your power: the power to reset, to shift, to begin again.
One of my favorite reminders is: “You have no obligation to be the person you were five minutes ago.”
It’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking, “This is just who I am,” or “I always mess this up.” But your past does not define you. You’re allowed to grow, to change, to pivot—even if it’s the tenth time you’ve tried. Your ability to evolve is always available to you.
In Conclusion
Whether you’re crushing your 2025 resolutions, have completely forgotten them, or never made any to begin with—you don’t need to wait for another New Year to start fresh.
You can make today, even this exact moment, your reset point.
New day. New you. Same endless potential.
